YOUR PEOPLE. YOUR PURPOSE. YOUR NEXT STEP.
Gelato: what it does, who it suits and where to start.
Explore physical products without starting with a storeroom.
What it does—and where it fits.
Gelato provides a print-on-demand platform connecting sellers with production and fulfilment services. A design can become a physical product ordered through a selling channel. You still need to decide what to sell, set appropriate expectations and look after the customer relationship.
Is it a useful fit for you?
Artists, designers and product businesses testing suitable printed items. It is not relevant to every business website. For custom local goods, specialist finishes or strict production control, compare a direct relationship with a local supplier.
A customer-first example
An illustrator tests a small, coherent collection of prints. Before promoting it, they order samples, check the artwork against each product specification, calculate the delivered cost, and write clear size and delivery information for buyers.
The story and the people behind it.
Founder and CEO Henrik Müller-Hansen and his team launched Optimalprint in 2007. Gelato’s leadership page places the launch of the Gelato platform in August 2012. The Norwegian-born business announced a 2021 funding round led by Insight Partners with other investors. That historic funding announcement is not a complete current ownership register.
Costs worth understanding before you start.
Calculate product cost, shipping, selling-platform fees, payment fees, taxes, replacements and your own margin. A no-stock workflow still needs cash to pay for fulfilment, and customer payouts may arrive later. Check whether optional subscriptions make sense at your real order volume.
Prices, included features, availability and leadership can change. Use the provider’s current plan and terms pages as the purchase reference. DigiSites does not sell or administer this third-party service for you.
How to get started.
- Choose a small range that fits your audience and that you have rights to produce.
- Create an account through Gelato’s official website and review current product, shipping and subscription costs.
- Prepare artwork for each product’s actual specification. Do not crop or distort artwork just to force it into a different aspect ratio.
- Order and inspect samples before promising quality to customers. Compare the delivered item with the listing.
- Connect a supported selling channel, review order approval settings and test the complete order journey. Publish realistic delivery and returns information and retain a customer-support process.
One detail that can save a wrong turn.
Mockups and successful uploads are not evidence of print quality or delivered orders. A DigiSites static product template is a showcase; it needs a real commerce and fulfilment integration before customers can buy.
Take the next step when it makes sense.
